Shop House is a historical source  of delight and nostalgia for Singapore and it has the architectural heritage value which is very significant.

This project is a renovation scheme of  a shop house located in Bukit Pasoh which is one of four historic districts located in Chinatown.

Having the existing architectural heritage shop house. The main concept and objective of this project is to ‘bring back the past’ of the existing shop house itself.

With that being said, this project focuses on the rich and historical aspect of the building and it surrounding to design a new “ Art Gallery & Cafe” having the concept of the history of Bukit Pasoh.

There are many phases to complete this project; from research & analysis, on-site measurement of the existing building, to carefully design the shophouse while following the URA’s rules and guidelines for renovating a heritage building.

This Art Gallery and Cafe has the design that focuses
on the historical aspect of traditional Singaporean
shop house architecture,
the first story is chosen for the cafe and gallery.


The design has the old Chinese architecture details
to bring back more memories from Bukit Pasoh
district. That being said that the design concept is
to integrate the past to the present


it sells and exhibits artifacts and paintings while also
serving Chinese traditional food and beverages.

The Art gallery and Cafe locatd at the first storey of the shop
house has the area of 121 m2.


The Design has the flow from Public - Semi Public - Private. This
circulation flow giving more staff at the back of the cafe.


The Art Gallery shows 2D and 3D art works. There are stands for
3D articafts located on the middle part and the 2D art works
situated on the walls with track hanging system to have flexible
frame for different sizes of paintings.


There are in total of 28 seats for the visitors. There are 3 types of
seating configurations to provide more flexible seating groups.
Which are; 2 seater, 4 seater - can combined, and a banquet
seats to give more flexibility to the group of seaters.


There are down light fixture for overall illumination, track spot
light in order to have more control of illumination target, and
Chinese traditional pendant light above the table.
